St. Leo’s vs Kilkenny College – Senior B Cup Match
Yesterday, 24 March 2010, St Leo’s played against Kilkenny College in the Senior B Cup Final which was held in Enniscorthy hockey pitch. The match started at 1.15 with sides battling for a lead. It was a very intense first half with many opportunities for both sides to score. Poppy Ashmore, Stephanie Holmes and Emma put the Kilkenny backs under great pressure with many short corners and strikes. Hillary Griffin goalkeeper along with St. Leo’s back’s Emer Fahy, Emma Daly, Laura Byrne, Hannah Sheerin, and Shauna Daly defended brilliantly and kept the score at a 0-0 draw at half time.
At the second half each team came back more confident to win. But it was St. Leo’s that pulled through scoring a magnificent goal by captain Leanne Lambert 10 minutes to the final whistle. Kilkenny battled on but at the final whistle the score read 1-0 to St. Leo’s College.
It was an emotional match with both captains giving a speech before recieving their medals, and the cup to St. Leo’s. St. Leo’s team worked hard this year with trainer Mrs Rennick and it all paid off in the end. Congratulations Girls, a win well deserved.
