Congratulations to St. Leo’s College Chamber Choir who won Youth Choir of the Festival at the annual Navan Choral Festival on Friday 11th May.  Sixteen choirs from all over Ireland took part but in the end St. Leo’s were victorious winning the St. Mary’s Credit Union Perpetual Cup with a top score of 93%. Choir Director Mr. Ian Curran is very proud of the girls and praised their commitment, dedication and tremendous talent.

Well done girls!

Each year approximately 50 schools nationwide take part in the GDI All Ireland German Debating Competition with one of the main aims of the competition being to enable students to use their German outside the classroom.

Well Done Girls – Ich Gratuliere!!

On Thursday last, 3rd May, St. Leo’s Chamber Choir took part in the Cork International Choral Festival. From among a highly competitive schedule the girls performed magnificantly and were unlucky to lose out being placed in the top three by just 0.5%.

Congratulations to their mentor Mr Ian Curran who took the coveted title of “Best Conductor” on the day.

The All Ireland German Debate takes place on Thursday 10th May. Good luck and best wishes to our star performers consisting of Luciana Sinpetru, Sara Rennick, Stephanie Holmes and Poppy Ashmore.

We are immensely proud of this team who have performed superbly todate and no doubt will do us proud again.

Congratulations to the German Debating Team consisting of Luciana Sinpetru, Stephanie Holmes, Sara Rennick and Poppy Ashmore who won the semi-finals against the German School, St. Kilian’s Dublin earlier this week.

The final round will be held in the Goethe Institute Dublin in May. Well done girls – All your hard work paid off!

On Friday 2nd March students from St. Leo’s College were among the 127 young people from the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin who were presented with their medals and certificates on successfully completing the Pope John Paul II Award.

This award, presented on the night by Mary Kennedy with a message of congratulations  from President Michael D. Higgins, was in recognition of the contribution that these young people made to their local parish and community by getting involved in a variety of activities.  Many thanks to Ms Aine Shiels for all her encouragement and support to the girls in pursuit of this award.

There will be different activities taking place each day including yoga ,beauty and random acts of kindness day.

The aim of our project is to create awareness around mental health also make the students aware that it is treatable because mental health is not a life sentence. It has been organised by the 4^th year Y.S.I class.

Mental health is a broad issue as anyone can be affected by it at any age. As a class we decided that this project was important to young people who have not been educated about mental health and how to manage it because they are not aware of the support services available to them.

By having this Mental Health week we are hoping that our school community will have more awareness around the issue of Mental Health, and all of the support services available.

St Leo’s College has always prided itself on the education of the whole person and in this respect we encourage and support all our students to particpate in a wide variety of extra curricular activities.

We are always delighted to hear about the girls success outside of school and welcome the opportunity to publicise their achievements to the school community.

Recent successes include:

Leinster Public Speaking Competition – St. Leo’s College team of Aoife Cooney, Jill Jennings and Chiamaka Okigbo took first place in the recent Leinster public speaking competition held in UCD recently.  Congratulations to Aoife Cooney who was also awarded Best Individual on the night.  Best wishes to the team who will compete in the All Ireland on Saturday 3rd March.

Music Competition - Ella Nagy, a first year student has been awarded 2nd prize in the Margaret Furlong Cup, a piano competition hosted by the Royal Irish Academy of Music.  Ella was unfortunate to miss first place with just 1% being the difference between Ella and the eventual winner.  For her performance Ella, who practises of an hour each day, played Haydn Sonata, Bach 2 part invention and the Greig Nocturn.

All Ireland Swimming – Well done to Montana Cobey Dunne who won silver medal at the All Ireland schools swimming championships last weekend.  Montana who trains three times a week in Dublin is a dedicated athlete and can be very proud of her achievements in this competitive sport.  Continued success to her in future competitions.
